Pinewood Derby

Jackson got to race in the Pinewood Derby tonight at Cub Scouts. He has been excited ever since he got the car kit last month. He and Steve decided on a simple design for their 1st effort and Jackson chose to paint it navy and gold for Dacula---go figure! He came in 4th place. We thought that was great for his first year. He was not too happy that he didn't place higher. It's too bad that kid is not competitive (ha!). He has already made plans for how to make his car faster next year and he doesn't want to paint it navy and gold again. He is going a totally different direction and wants to paint it gold with navy writing! His plans for winning next year include the fact that the boy who has won the past 3 years will be moving up to Boy Scouts next year.

Let it Snow!

We've lived in Georgia for 4 years (where has time gone?). It has snowed twice since we have lived here and both times were last week! Our kids thought they were so lucky when it snowed Wednesday night---enough snow to cancel church activities so they could stay home and play in the snow. They had a snowball fight and played outside in the dark until Sam was practically frozen solid and it was time for bed. They were reluctant to come inside but they thought that school would be cancelled on Thursday...They were wrong! It melted early Thursday and they had to go to school.

Imagine their surprise when the weatherman predicted more snow for Saturday! We even got a "heavy snow warning". It was enough snow to cancel basketball and the youth dance on Saturday night. That was a bummer because our youth were in charge and they did an awesome job on Friday decorating for the dance. Ironically, their theme was "Winter Wonderland".

Happy Birthday Steve!

Alright, so I am a little late on this one! Steve turned 40 last Thursday. Holy Cow, he is old! Just kidding. His sister had someone decorate our yard with tombstones and buzzards. It was great. It snowed on Wednesday night so here is a great picture of it all with the snow coming down.
We celebrated with the kids on Thursday. Notice the "?" candle. Just another sign of Steve's denial that he is really 40!
Friday night, I threw a surprise party for him at Maggiano's. It was great fun and he was actually surprised. Here is a picture of most everyone. I was not thinking and forgot to have someone take a picture of the two of us. Oops!

Sam I Am

How cute is he?

Kiss Me Katie!

So, we named our one and only daughter Kathryn Elizabeth. I thought it was timeless, could easily be shortened to Kate, she could go by Elizabeth or Liz. I just never wanted her to be "Katie". I'm just not fond of it. So, her nursery leader started calling her Katie a few months ago. Now she will tell you "I Katie". She sees a picture of herself---"That's Katie". She wants her doll back from her baby brother---"It's Katie's doll". I still haven't given up on Kate. I'll keep calling her that. I don't think the war is over yet, but I definitely lost the battle.
